As I was leaving the refuge—a place I visit frequently—I spotted this beautiful animal energetically leaping through the snow. I quickly pulled over to observe and photograph the scene. After a brief pause in activity, the coyote resumed his search for food, intently scanning the ground and listening for movement beneath the snow. I watched patiently, waiting for the right composition. Eventually, he locked in on a sound, focused, and prepared to pounce. In that perfect moment of tension and grace, I captured the shot. It was a spontaneous and unforgettable encounter with one of Colorado’s most iconic wildlife species.
