This image captures two Great Horned owl chicks resting in their home. I always wanted to get a photo of owls in a tree cavity, so this moment was really special for me. I found a pair of Great Horned Owls living in this tree, and I observed them raising these chicks from when the eggs were first laid. When the chicks started branching (developmental stage where young, flightless owlets leave their nest and climb out onto surrounding branches) I noticed that in the morning they would always come back inside the tree cavity to rest. So, I woke up very early in the morning to get the shot. As soon as I arrived, the chicks were already in the tree cavity giving me the perfect composition! This was an incredible experience with these adorable owl chicks that I would never forget.
